Hurricane Katrina Disaster Recovery , State of Louisiana.

DMS Consulting was contracted in September 2005 by the Division of Administration, the Office of Risk Management for the State of Louisiana to provide assistance in maximizing FEMA funding and insurance recovery for damages caused byHurricanes Katrina, Rita, and Gustov. DMS Consulting provides support and guidance to Facility Planning & Control and other State of Louisiana agencies.

We worked with senior state officials in order to develop a strategic plan for recovery from Hurricane Katrina. DMS Consulting staff participated in meetings and site visits to develop a firm knowledge and understanding of damages to facilities in order to ensure that the scopes of Project Worksheets are adequate to support the damages experienced. Through consulting and advising the State of Louisiana on FEMA eligibility policies including 406 Mitigation, we have been successfully assisted the state in identifying over 5 billion of eligible reimbursable dollars from FEMA, insurance and third party sources.

We assisted the state in obtaining funds to convert the former University Community Hospital to an interim Level One Trauma Center in order to replace the functions pervious performed by Charity Hospital after Hurricane Katrina. The project was funded, designed and built and operating within a fourteen month period after the hurricane.

The 400+ beds and emergency care that the Interim hospital provided was a welcomed relief to residents and workers of the area in need of medical attention during the recovery and rebuilding process. DMS Consulting was able to aid the $94 million to convert University Community hospital to the Interim LSU Hospital Level I trama center.

The Louisiana Superdome, an iconic landmark of the City of New Orleans, sustained severe damage as a result of Hurricane Katrina. The facility served as a shelter of last resort during the storm and was damaged internally by evacuees, flooding, and lack of moisture control which resulted in mold growth. The facility's roof and siding was damaged by wind and water intrusion. DMS was able to aid the State in recovering 150 million in repairs and mitigation projects for damages incurred to this facility.
